750 Year Celebration Working Group

The following members sit on this Working Group:

Purpose: In 2022 Congleton will celebrate 750 years since the town was given a charter allowing men of the town the right to hold land through the payment of rent rather than by personal service to the Lord of the Manor. It also gave the inhabitants of the town the right to elect a Mayor and an ale taster. In 1972 the 700-year anniversary of the Charter was celebrated for the duration of the year with some very large and memorable events. It is envisaged that there will be many project groups working on aspects of 2022 and small ‘steering group’ that the project groups will link into. As the organisation at the civic centre of Congleton it is envisaged that the Town Council will play a key role in the town’s celebrations.

Objectives: A great chance to bring people of Congleton together to celebrate our town, its history and all the many things that are special about Congleton. It will hopefully offer an opportunity for the town to come back together after months of social distancing and cancelled events and a chance to gain wider exposure of Congleton at a regional and national level.

Partners: This group collaborates with the following:

How Can You Help: You could volunteer with one of the many events in the being planned throughout 2022, similarly, you could put on your own themed event to link in with the year.
