Town Hall Story Board

Story Board Project - Town Hall

The Story Board Project is a result of a partnership between Cheshire East Council, Congleton Partnership, the Museum and the Town Council.
The notion of having a creative interpretation of the Town Hall was to commission an artist/interpreter to tell the story of the Town Hall.
The idea was to explain the origin, the importance and modern relevance of the building, but, to tell it in an interesting involving and fun way.
The brief given to the creative interpreters included drawing inspiration from the River Dane, The Cloud, the towns past significant trades including the silk mills, fustian cutting, leatherwork and ribbons, but, not forgetting some of our modern businesses which includes sophisticated electronics, ribbons and Airbags etc. The brief could also include significant past Royal events/visits, choral events and political activities of note.
The final product was to be aimed at not only introducing people to the building but actually encouraging them to explore and visit the important rooms and artifacts housed in the building and the Museum next door.
Over 30 artists and organisations originally presented submissions for the project and this was whittled down to a shortlist of 6. The shortlisted candidates were then invited to attend the Town Hall in February 2011 to present their ideas and concepts for the Storyboard. The Town Hall was open to members of the public who viewed the designs and displays produced and were then invited to make comments on which submission they preferred, before the final creative interpretation was selected.
The company selected was Illuminous and the video shown here was produced by Rob and Matt Vale.
