Congleton Town Hall was alive with the sound of music at the town mayor’s charity fundraising event of the year. On Sunday 26 February, 90 guests enjoyed a traditional afternoon tea, sequence dancing and local entertainment at the Strictly High Tea Dance.
Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside said: “I was truly delighted to host such a wonderful afternoon, it was fantastic to receive the amazing show of support and to see so many people ‘come dancing’ at the special occasion. The event would not have been possible without the support of a number of people, I would like to personally thank our fantastic hosts for the afternoon, Andrew & Jenny Bell of Love to Dance, who filled the dancefloor and to some of their regular, loyal dancers for leading the steps! Mark Bailey from Mark’s Events for the truly sumptuous afternoon tea and the Congleton West Rangers who helped Mark to serve the tables. The talented musicians from Congleton Youth Orchestra wowed the audience with their String Quartet performance and Trinity Amateur Operatic Society got us ‘All Shook Up’ with some preview songs from their forthcoming show at Daneside Theatre in April. Last but not least the marketing team at Congleton Town Council for making everything happen!”
Cllr Gartside continues: “The charity raffle raised a whopping amount, thank you to everyone who dug deep to purchase a ticket and to all the local businesses, groups, and individuals who kindly donated prizes. The proceeds total over £500 which will be shared amongst local charities. It makes me feel so proud and honoured to be town mayor of our generous and caring lovely town.”
The town mayor was joined by civic dignitaries, fellow councillors and guests from Congleton and neighbouring towns who had booked a ticket to be part of the quintessential event. The High Tea Dance with all its sparkle and panache replaced the traditional mayor’s ball to make it more affordable for everyone in the midst of the cost of living crisis.
