Sustainability Shines at Green Fayre

Congleton’s sixth annual Green Fayre proved a huge success, with visitors enjoying an inspiring day of activities, information-sharing, and community spirit in the town centre on Saturday 27 September.

More than 30 stalls lined the High Street, showcasing environmentally friendly businesses, products, and services. Inside the Town Hall, visitors explored the popular Congleton Repair Café, swapped books, and enjoyed eco-friendly children’s face painting. The Big Clothes Movement fashion swap was another highlight, encouraging people to give pre-loved clothing a second life.

Families were delighted to see children carrying home bug hotels and plant pots, while the roaming Hedgemen entertainers brought fun and laughter to the streets. To the delight of all, the weather stayed dry throughout the day.

Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Brittain, praised the event: “This is more than a fayre – it’s a celebration of community action towards a greener future. Repairing, reusing, and supporting local businesses all play a part. It was fantastic to meet and chat with so many people on the day.”

Organised by Congleton Town Council and Congleton Partnership, the Green Fayre offered a valuable opportunity for residents to learn, connect, and take action on sustainability.

A spokesperson for the organisers added: “We’ve had fantastic feedback, with so many great conversations and exchanges of ideas. The smiles on children’s faces as they carried home their creations summed up the spirit of the day. Thank you to everyone who came along and to all the volunteers who made it possible.”
