High Street Award for Browns Jewellers

Browns of Congleton Jewellers, a family-run business with roots dating back to 1920, has been recognised with a Town Mayor’s High Street Award for 25 years of trading from its current location on Congleton’s High Street.

Still proudly family-run, the business is led by Janet Hollins, granddaughter of the original founder. Over the years, Browns has built a strong reputation for exceptional customer service, quality craftsmanship, and trusted advice.

Janet expressed her pride in receiving the award: “It’s a real honour to be recognised with a High Street Award for 25 years in our current store. Browns has always been about people – our long-standing customers, our dedicated team, and the wider Congleton community. We wouldn’t be here without their loyalty and support. Our team goes above and beyond to provide the personal service and expertise that make Browns special, and I am so proud of everything they do.”

Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Brittain praised Browns’ enduring contribution to Congleton’s high street: “Browns of Congleton is more than just a jeweller – it is part of the town’s history and heritage. For generations, the family has built a reputation for trust, quality, and customer care. Reaching 25 years in their current location is a fantastic achievement, and it is a pleasure to recognise Janet and her team with this award.”

The Browns story began in the 1920s, when the original shop, located across the road from its present site, was opened by Janet’s grandfather. Nearly a century later, the family tradition continues. Janet explained the business’s deep ties with the town, she said: “Times have changed, but our traditional approach means we’re still proudly at the heart of Congleton. Our passion and experience make us part of a story that goes beyond the shop itself. We’ve seen families come back to us for generations, and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.”

The High Street Awards celebrate long-standing businesses that have shown resilience, excellent service, and dedication to Congleton. From independents to national names, the awards highlight the vital role local traders play in keeping the town centre vibrant.

Residents are encouraged to nominate their favourite businesses that have traded in Congleton for at least five years. Nominations can be submitted online at www.congleton-tc.gov.uk or emailed to info@congleton-tc.gov.uk.
