Have your say on the town

Congleton’s Annual Town Meeting will take place on Thursday 15 May at 7pm in Congleton Town Hall. Prior to the meeting, members of the public are warmly invited to attend the presentation of the Town Mayor’s Civic Awards, which will begin at 6pm, offering a chance to celebrate the town’s unsung heroes and dedicated volunteers. Doors open at 5.30pm.

The Annual Town Meeting is not a council meeting, but a valuable opportunity for Congleton residents to comment on or raise questions about any aspect of town life. Legally required to take place before 1 June each year, the meeting serves as an important platform for community engagement.

The meeting will be chaired by Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Kay Wesley, and will include a review of the past year, a series of short presentations, and an open forum for discussion.

Following the presentations, there will be a question and answer session on the items discussed, followed by an open session where anyone present may raise matters of concern or interest. Questions submitted in advance will be addressed first.

Residents wishing to submit a question or comment in advance can do so by emailing info@congleton-tc.gov.uk, posting or delivering it to Congleton Town Hall, High Street, CW12 1BN, or by telephoning 01260 270350 ext 1. Please include your name, address, and contact details, and specify whether you wish to ask your question in person or have it read out on your behalf.

While questions may also be raised on the night, priority will be given to those submitted in advance. Please note that the number of questions may be limited due to time constraints, with the meeting scheduled to close at 8.30pm.

Chief Officer David McGifford commented: “The Annual Town Meeting is a great chance for local people to get together and raise questions about issues affecting the town. It is not a council meeting, and councillors have the same rights as attending members of the public. Issues raised during the meeting will either be taken up by the town council or passed to the relevant organisation for consideration. I hope many residents and local group representatives will take the time to attend.”
