Green Fayre

Working together for a greener future

Congleton Town Council and Congleton Partnership host an annual Green Fayre and Climate Festival. The 5th annual Green Fayre is due to be held on the 28th September 2024.

The Climate Festival and Green Fayre is a chance to explore green issues and local solutions.

Visit the Congleton Partnership website for the latest news as they organise the event:

Who takes part in Congleton’s Green Fayre?

Around 30 stallholders take part on the day, a good mixture of local businesses, groups and organisations.

We don’t charge for a stall, but ask for commitment on the day to have volunteers at the stall from 10am -4pm. As the Green Fayre coincides with the Markers Market it is always a busy day. The Makers Market is on the Bridge Street area and the Green Fayre on the closed High Street and Town Hall.

In 2023 the following groups were part of the Green Fayre:

Beartown Rickshaw, Air Quality, ASNA, Bare Health, Congleton Radio, Tropic Skincare, Green Party, Congleton & District Conservation Volunteers, Ariva Renewables Energy Conversation, Dane Moss Community Group, Cheshire Beekeepers, Congleton Swap Plants & Gardening for Wildlife, Congleton Climate Action Group, Trees for Congleton, Eco-Schools, Congleton in Bloom, Curious Crafts, Siemens, Congleton Hydro, JB Woodwork, Plastic Free Congleton, Congleton Green Working Group, Baddeley Green Hedgehog Rescue, William Dean Trust, Congleton Ranger Guides, TBT Electrics.

Inside the Town Hall we hosted a bumper edition of Congleton’s Repair Café and Cheshire Kids Clothes Swap.

Congleton’s Climate Festival

In the week preceding Congleton’s Green Fayre, various groups organise climate activities. These include walks, tours, bread making and much else besides! These are all free of charge and all aim to educate participants on the effects of climate change.

Examples of past events:

Streetscape Rewilding Tour – A tour around Congleton’s open spaces and learn about how CTC Streetscape team is becoming more sustainable.

Congleton Hydro Visits – A tour around the hydro facility.

Astbury Mere Eco Trail – A Talk & Walk with CE Ranger at Astbury Mere

Plastic Reduction/Recycling Event – drop-in event discussing all things plastic

Misinformation on Climate Change Talk – a discussion on misinformation where it comes from (not necessarily always what you might expect as the sources).

Timbersbrook Eco Trail – what can historical land use changes tell us about how we may need to adapt for the future?

Allotment Open Day – a tour of Vale Allotments explaining what grows and the history of this ‘hidden gem’ in town centre.

Bath House Open Morning – Volunteers were on site for people to ask questions about this fascinating physic garden in the centre of Congleton.

These are just an example of the different events and activities that take place. If you would like to take part in Congleton’s Climate Festival and Green Fayre please contact Cathy Dean (Congleton Partnership) cathy.dean@congleton-tc.gov.uk.
