The festive season is almost here, and Congleton is set to shine brighter than ever! This year’s eagerly anticipated Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place on Friday 29 November. The event promises a magical evening for all, kicking off at 4pm, with the highlight being the big switch-on at 6pm.
There’s something for everyone, from a full programme of festive entertainment—including a Taylor Swift tribute act and performances by the Rode Hall Silver Band—to a wide array of local charity, food, and craft stalls spread across the High Street, Town Hall, Pedestrian Area, and Market Quarter.
The spectacular lantern parade, led by the lively Karamba Band, will set off from Cross Street/Mill Street at 5.35pm, guiding Santa’s sleigh to the Christmas tree (by NatWest) for the big switch-on at 6pm. After the event, Santa will bid farewell to the crowds as he departs for the North Pole from the roof of TMC!
More Festive Highlights:
- The Community Stage relocated to Swan Bank will showcase performances from local schools, clubs, and groups.
- The beautifully decorated Town Hall will host a mix of craft and charity stalls, as well as children’s face painting and crafts led by Kids Planet and Team Parish.
- Congleton Market Quarter will feature its own special Christmas Market, complete with festive entertainment.
- Fairground rides will add to the fun for families and children alike.
This year will be an inclusive celebration for everyone. The new Inclusivity Area on Mill Street will ensure the festivities are accessible to all. Designed with input from the town council’s Equal Access Support Group, this dedicated space will include a large screen streaming live performances from the main stage, which Congleton Rotary has generously supported with a donation of £750. Ample space will be available for families, prams, mobility scooters, and wheelchair users. A quiet space within TMC will also be available.
Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Kay Wesley said: “The Christmas Lights Switch-On is one of the highlights of the year, bringing our community together in a truly magical way, and this year promises to be better than ever. With the new inclusivity measures and an incredible line-up of entertainment, we’re proud to make the event more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone. I encourage everyone to join us for this spectacular occasion and officially kick off the countdown to Christmas!”
To help visitors make the most of this magical evening, the town council have produced a free event guide. Copies are available at the Information Centre or can be picked up on the night. The programme includes a handy map and entertainment timetable, so you won’t miss a moment of the festivities. It can also be download here:
To ensure the event runs smoothly, road closures will be in place from 12noon to 10pm on High Street, Mill Street, and Swan Bank. Market Street will remain open for access to Morrisons and the Fairground Car Park. The bus and taxi ranks will operate as usual but will exit via Mountbatten Way. Due to large crowds, pet owners are advised to leave dogs at home for their comfort.
The free Santa’s Grotto in Radley’s (Lion & Swan) is now fully booked. Attendees who can no longer attend, are remined to cancel their place so that another child can enjoy this magical experience. Visit: www.ticketsource.co.uk/congleton-town-council
The town council would like to extend a big thank you to all the Christmas sponsors. The event wouldn’t happen without their generous support. Massive thanks to: Congleton Market Quarter, Rotary Congleton, Sibelco, Kanga, Bellway, UKSP Fund.
