Town Mayor’s Annual Triathlon

Due to the building works taking place around the Congleton Leisure Centre, the 4th Annual Congleton Town Mayor’s Triathlon will not take place in April 2020. However, organisers are excited about working with Graham Construction on a fun cycling, running/jogging and walking event on the new Congleton Link Road ahead of it being opened to traffic towards the end of the year.

Congleton Town Mayor’s Charity Sprint Triathlon 2019

The fun sporting event returned to Congleton Park on Sunday 28th April and had a record amount of triathletes taking part in its third year.

The winners of the 2019 Triathlon were presented with their trophies and certificates at a presntation evening at Congleton Town Hall.

Cllr Suzie Akers Smith and Triathlete Jack Schofield presented the awards.

The aims and objectives for the event were:

  • To inspire people of all ages to become more active
  • To promote swimming, cycling and running for fitness
  • To improve personal fitness levels and feel good factor
  • Entrants to raise money for the Town Mayor’s nominated charities for 2018/19

The past two events have raised over £10,000 for the chosen Mayor’s Charities. The 2019 event supported: Ruby’s Fund and the LOL Foundation.

Adult Triathlon, 15+

Participants entered as individuals or by being a part of a team, with each member completing a discipline:

Adults: 500m swim (20 lengths), 10km cycle ride and 5km run

“We don’t mind how you do it, just do it!”

Go- Tri- 8-14 years

Due to popular demand, the children’s Go-Tri returned and saw over 70 children as either individuals or team entries taking part. This was over double the number that took part in 2018.

Children: 150m swim (6 lengths), 6km cycle ride and 1.8km run

Stalls

As well as the info tent and the event HQ, there was a number of stalls to visit on the day; health and well-being stalls as well as members from the local swimming, cycling and running clubs to talk, to find out more about their clubs and sporting activities. Thanks to; Ayres Health, Norris Health, Gill Armstrong, Congleton Rugby Club, Congleton Slimming World, Crossfit Fierce Spirit, Congleton PCSO team. Also to the Prince of Wales for the drinks and Ice Cream, Fabio’s Pizza for the food and Congleton Rotary Club for the volunteer refreshments.
