Congleton Triathlon 2019

Congleton Town Mayor’s Charity Sprint Triathlon 2019

The fun sporting event is set to return on Sunday 28th April and is planned to be bigger and better in its third year.

“The Year to Tri”

After the success of the introduction of the children’s Go-Tri in 2018, this years event will include both the Children’s Go-Tri and the adults Triathlon with the outcome of getting more people more active.

The event will be taking place at Congleton Leisure Centre and Congleton Park. This starts with the Go-Tri waves at 1.30pm followed by the adult waves.

The aims and objectives for the event are:

  • To inspire people of all ages to become more active
  • To promote swimming, cycling and running for fitness
  • To improve personal fitness levels and feel good factor
  • Entrants to raise money for the Town Mayor’s nominated charities for 2018/19

The past two events have raised over £10,000 for the chosen Mayor’s Charities. This year the event will support: Ruby’s Fund and the LOL Foundation.

Adult Triathlon, 15+

Participants can enter either as an individual or as part of a team, with each member completing a discipline:

Adults: 500m swim (20 lengths), 10km cycle ride and 5km run

For individuals, the cost is £20 per person. If competing as part of a team the cost is £15 per person (Team of 2 = £30 // Team of 3 = £45) this covers the cost of timing chips, British Triathlon permit for the event, personalised medal, post-race food, organisation and administration.

A completed entry and waiver form and entry fee will secure your place at the 2019 event. Places are limited, so make sure to book your place now, strict deadline of Tuesday 23rd April. Once spaces are filled, names will go onto a waiting list. To inquire for a Triathlon pack, click here.

“We don’t mind how you do it, just do it!”

Go- Tri- 8-14 years

Due to popular demand, the children’s Go-Tri event is back and open to more children to give it a “tri”!

Children: 150m swim (6 lengths), 6km cycle ride and 1.8km run

These distances are based on the British Triathlon Go-Tri guidelines as set for 9-10 year olds. This means that children aged 8-9 years wanting to participate will have to do so as part of a team, taking on the challenge together. The Triathlon Organising Team may open up a more challenging wave if numbers allow to do so.

Starting on Sunday 17th February, the 10 week build up to the event, there will be free swim training in Congleton Leisure Centre every Sunday afternoon from 1.30pm – 2.30pm. Further training schedules will be put in place and advertised when finalised.

As well as the info tent and the event HQ, there will be a number of stalls to visit on the day; health and well-being stalls as well as members from the local swimming, cycling and running clubs to talk, to find out more about their clubs and sporting activities. The Triathlon is a great way to advertise and engage with people. If you have a sports group/ club that you would like to showcase at the Triathlon event, please get in touch.

With the 2019 event incorporating more entrants than in previous years, this will take a lot of organising and marshalling on the day. If you are interested in getting involved in the event, please contacts the organising team.
