Christmas in Congleton

Christmas in Congleton is slightly different this year, with Government restrictions, social distancing aspects and a national November lockdown, the usual Lights Switch-On event and celebrations were unable to take place, but there is still a Christmas feel in Congleton, from decorated shop windows, new lights, Santa Hat Trails and Carol Concerts…

Christmas Lights- Congleton Town Council has invested in additional Christmas lights to add extra sparkle to the Town Centre this festive season. Come and see the new lights in the pedestrian area, Market Street, Victoria Street and West Street and also the new multicoloured lights and star on the main town tree. Following the success of the poppy projection onto the Town Hall, the building has now been lit up with a snowflake theme for Christmas. A virtual tour of the lights will be posted on this page and the Town Council Youtube page shortly.

Tree of Light- Rotary-Congleton lit the Tree of Light on Saturday 5th December, which will now remain lit until the New Year. Stars in absence of a loved one decorate the surrounding barriers of the tree. Stars can still be purchased and added to the tree up until 23rd December. All proceeds from sales of stars will go to local good causes. Stars can be purchased from the Visitor Information Centre in the Town Hall or Allen’s Newsagents in the Town Centre or via the Rotary website: www.congletonrotary.co.uk

Christmas Windows- More than 20 shops signed up to Congleton’s Christmas Window Dressing Competition 2020. Judging took place mid-December by a small group of Town Councillors. Thank you to all who have entered.

Santa Hat Trail- Pick up a Santa Hat Trail leaflet from the Visitor Information Centre in the Town Hall. Look in the windows of the 24 participating shops and note down the letter from each, once collected, this will spell out a Christmas message. Drop completed forms back in the postbox on the gates of the Town Hall. Five lucky winners will be drawn from the correct entries in the New Year. Trail runs from 5th December – 5th January 2021.

Free Parking in Congleton- Car Parking will be FREE  in Princess Street, Fairground and Back Park Street car parks on the weekend of 12th & 13th December, as well as Tuesday 22nd December.
