Delia Metcalfe Ladies’ Fashion and Footwear has received a Town Mayor’s High Street Award, celebrating an incredible 30 years of trading in Congleton’s town centre on Bridge Street.
The independent fashion retailer, which also has a branch in Leek, has been a cornerstone of Congleton’s high street for three decades, offering stylish ladies’ fashion and footwear. Owner Delia Metcalfe said she was honoured to receive the award, paying tribute to her loyal customers, hardworking staff, and the wider community.
Delia said: “I am absolutely thrilled to receive this award. We simply wouldn’t still be here without the amazing support of our loyal customers in Congleton. Over the years, we’ve welcomed so many regulars and now we’re delighted to be meeting new customers too, including shoppers from the new housing developments. Surviving two recessions and the covid pandemic hasn’t been easy, but thanks to the incredible dedication of my long-serving team and the support of the Congleton community, we’re proud to still be part of the town’s high street.”
Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Brittain, praised the shop’s resilience and contribution to the town. He said: “Delia’s is a shining example of the commitment and adaptability needed to succeed on the high street. For 30 years, this business has offered excellent customer service, employed local people, and helped keep the town centre vibrant. Congleton is fortunate to have such passionate and resilient traders, and it’s a pleasure to recognise their contribution.”
Delia also acknowledged the importance of Congleton’s changing town centre, she said: “The high street has evolved so much over the years. We’ve had to diversify to survive, but Congleton now has a fantastic hospitality culture, with bars and cafés that bring people in and support retail too. Together, we help create a thriving town centre.”
The High Street Awards celebrate long-standing businesses that have shown commitment to Congleton despite the challenges of online and out-of-town shopping. By providing excellent customer service and keeping the town centre vibrant, these businesses make a vital contribution to community life.
Residents are encouraged to nominate their favourite businesses that have traded locally for at least five years. Nominations can be submitted online at: High Street Awards – Congleton Town Council
