Congleton Partnership Welcomes its Fifth Chair

Congleton Partnership elected Peter Aston as its new Chair at its Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday September.  Peter will replace Glen Williams, who chose to step aside from the demanding role of Chair, whilst agreeing to continue in the less time intensive role of Deputy Chair and staying fully committed to delivering on a wide range of partnership projects.

In notifying the executive that he would not be re-standing for the Chair, Glen Williams said: “I have decided not to put my name forward for Chair for 2021/22 to enable the Partnership to continue in a slightly different direction. I remain completely committed to the Partnership and am very proud of all that it has achieved and continues to achieve for the town.”

Peter Aston has been involved with the Congleton Partnership since its inception in 2008 and has chaired the Congleton Sustainability Group for the past 13 years. He was nominated by Glen as Chair and duly elected. Peter thanked Glen for all his hard work as Chair of the Partnership over a difficult COVID-19 dominated couple of years and was delighted to see him elected as Vice Chair.

Peter Aston said: “I am honoured to become the fifth Chair of the Congleton Partnership. It is a fabulous organisation and a great asset for Congleton.  Over the years the Partnership has added a great deal to the fabric of the town, both in terms of physical projects such as the River Dane Walkway and in supporting the community through groups like the dementia friends, youth forum and senior forum. Last year alone more than 7000 volunteer hours was given by Partnership volunteers for the benefit of the town.

The Partnership is made up of a number of different working groups and is financially supported by Congleton Town Council and Cheshire East Council as well as bringing in funds from outside groups and organisations. In the past year the Partnership has spent £34,954 on projects, has £24,165 allocated to projects not yet spent and a further £33,000 ear marked for future projects.
