Congleton in Bloom needs you!

Congleton In Bloom seeks more volunteers for this summer’s National competition

With just six months to go before Congleton goes head to head with towns across the UK in the prestigious Britain in Bloom competition, the Congleton in Bloom team are challenging groups, organisations, businesses and individuals to see how they can get involved.

The team is holding an Open Evening in the Town Hall on Wednesday 5 February from 6-8pm where people can meet the team, find out more about the In Bloom plans for 2014 and see how they can help the town with our In Bloom entry.

Cllr David Brown, who chairs the group said: “We are keen to meet anyone who is interested in helping out. You don’t have to have green fingers just be prepared to give a small amount of your time to help in any way you can. You may be prepared to organise or take part in a one-off tidy up, or help with design work, promotion, planting, weeding, painting or a regular litter pick on your street. The more people that get involved the more we can achieve!”
This year also represents 50 years of Britain in Bloom so the judges will be looking for some golden themes to represent the golden anniversary.
Patti Pinto and Jackie MacArthur, two members of the In Bloom team, will be attending a one-day conference for In Bloom finalists in Sunderland on the 30 January. At this meeting the two will gain valuable advice and guidance on what the judges will expect when they come to Congleton in July. This will be shared at the Open Meeting on the 5 February.

Jackie MacArthur, Town Centre Manager said: “It’s a great honour for Congleton to be in Britain in Bloom – and thanks must go to everyone who worked so hard last year to win North West in Bloom to put us in this position. Being part of this prestigious national competition gives us a great opportunity to work together to make the town even better for everyone this summer and beyond. I hope people will come to the Open Meeting to find out more – but if they can’t make the meeting there will be information on the website www.congleton-tc.gov.uk  or email info@congletontowncouncil.co.uk or tel 01260 270350
