Congleton Heritage & Antiques Festival- September 2020

Congleton’s Heritage & Antiques Festival, September 12th – 27th.

During the fortnight there are a wide range of virtual events which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. With around 50 online events and activities there should be something for everyone.

Check out the new Congleton Town Hall and Treasures video:

The gateway to the festival is via the new website <www.congletonheritagefestival.com> On there you will find the full calendar of events which you will be able to view anytime after the day shown on each event. Most events then will remain viewable throughout the festival and beyond. Over half of the videos have been specially made for the Heritage Festival, whilst others are links to existing heritage sites.

Highlights of the festival include a talk on Northern Art by Adam Partridge  (Fri 18th),  poetry from John Lindley (Thurs 24th) and a talk on Congleton’s important Suffragist Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy (Mon 14th). Other highlights will include a vintage cinema season with daily recommendations, a tour of Congleton Town Hall and its treasures, and a walk along The Macclesfield Canal. Fans and collectors of Bossons Pottery can watch a video based on the well known “imagical” plaster characters (Sun 27th) and Mossley residents won’t want to miss a talk on the history of the area (Weds 23rd). The events make up a sketchbook of interesting people and places in and around Congleton.

The Festival’s website <congletonheritagefestival.com> has full details and links to all the events. Nino Manci, the Festival’s Director has expressed his gratitude to all the contributors who have given their time and expertise into making this festival happen at such short notice. “Thanks also to our sponsors for their financial support, which has made it possible to organise Congleton Heritage Festival in such challenging times”. He added, “We are already planning for 2022 which will be Congleton’s 750th Charter year. We would welcome bringing more people on board to contribute their knowledge of any Heritage or Antiques related matters”.
