Call for new Cadet

Congleton Town Council is reminding local youth groups and organisations that there’s still time to nominate an exceptional young person for the prestigious role of Congleton Town Mayor’s Cadet for 2025/26.

The Mayor’s Cadet is a unique and respected civic position, giving one young resident the chance to represent Congleton’s youth, accompany the town mayor at formal events, and gain valuable experience that builds leadership, confidence, and pride in community service.

Nominations close on Monday 22 April 2025, and the council is urging youth organisations to seize this opportunity to recognise a young person who goes above and beyond in their community.

Cllr Kay Wesley, Congleton’s current Town Mayor, said: “The Mayor’s Cadet role is a fantastic platform for young people to have a voice in civic life and make a real difference. We’re proud to offer this opportunity to empower and uplift our youth, and we encourage all local groups to consider nominating a deserving young person.”

Barnie Mitcheson, the current Mayor’s Cadet, shared his own reflections: “It’s been a brilliant experience—supporting the mayor, meeting inspiring people, and building skills that will stay with me for life. I’d recommend it to any young person who wants to get involved and make a positive impact.”

Key Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominees must be aged 14–18 during their term and reside in the Congleton parish.
  • Any youth group or organisation may submit one nomination on behalf of a young person who has agreed to be put forward.
  • The successful candidate will be officially appointed at the Mayor Making Ceremony on Thursday 22 May 2025 at Congleton Town Hall.
