Town Mayor Cllr David Martin

Statement from Congleton Town Council on the news of the death of the Town Mayor, Cllr David Martin.

Congleton Town Council councillros and staff are saddened to hear about the death of Cllr David Martin, Congleton Town Mayor, who passed away today (21st December) after a short illness. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to his wife, Pat Martin and family.

Cllr David Martin was a popular, hard-working and enthusiastic Councillor and Mayor who will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. David was elected to serve on Congleton Town Council in May 2007 and became Mayor in May 2011, after being elected as a Councillor for a second term of office. The last Civic Engagement which he was able to attend was the Town Carol Service at St Peter’s Church on Thursday 15th December where he was delighted to receive the New King James Version of the Bible on behalf of the Town Council.

The Town Council will continue to raise funds for Dave’s chosen Town Mayor’s charities which are Cheshire East Hospice, The Stroke Unit at Macclesfield Hospital and Help the Heroes Mercian Regiment.

Every effort will be made to honour the Town Mayor’s engagements with the assistance of Deputy Town Mayor Cllr Sally Holland and previous Town Mayor Cllr David Brown.
