Community Litter Pick

Congleton people are being asked to help make the town look its very best before the North West in Bloom judges arrive on Monday 22 July.

Councillor Glen Williams will lead a Community Litter Pick for the Lower Heath area from 10am – 11am on Saturday 20 July. The group plan to cover route from Rood Hill traffic lights to Eaton Bank Academy and from the Academy to the new path into the Park.

On Sunday 21 July the In Bloom team would love as many people as possible to join in a litter pick covering the area around the bus station, town centre, fairground car park and community gardens.

The judges will start their tour at Astbury Mere Country Park at 9am on Monday 22 July. They will then go on a tour which will include Ennerdale Drive, the Community Orchard, Mereside Avenue, New Life Church, Siemens, Congleton Park, Congleton Town Centre, the Community Garden, Daven Primary School, Congleton Children’s Centre, Moody Street, Congleton Cemetery, Hilary Avenue Allotments and The Church House Pub. The judges will also carry out neighbourhood judging of Bromley Farm and Buglawton.

Congleton has achieved RHS Gold standard for the past two years, but has come runner-up in the category to Colne in Lancashire. This year with the help of Congleton Food4 Free, the Princes Trust and the Probation Service many areas have been improved – including Capitol Walk, Riverside Walkway, Fairground car park, children’s centre and cemetery. Extra colour has been added to the town with new planters and shops hanging baskets.

Cllr Glen Williams said: “Congleton is in a category for towns with a population of 12,000 to 35,000. It’s a big category with lots of competition, but lots of people have worked hard to make the town look good not only for judging day but all year round for our residents, workers and visitors. With this much competition we really do need to be in the best possible shape on Monday morning which is why we are appealing for help for extra help this weekend.”

Litter pickers, high viz vests and bags will be provided. You are very welcome to just turn up on the day, but if you have any concerns in advance please contact Jackie MacArthur on 01260 270350 or Glen Williams on 01260 277384.
