The latest update on Congleton Town Centres Public Realm works which began on the 24th July
The transformation of Congleton’s pedestrian area started on Monday 24th July thanks to funding from Cheshire East Council. The works will include new pavement blocks, seating, lights, bins, planters and trees as well as improvements to the roads at either end of the pedestrian area.
The improvements will start at the Mill Street/ Swan Bank junction, road closures on Mill Street will be necessary while new blocks are laid on the road. This could take up to six weeks, the works are taking place during the school holidays to minimise disruption. Congleton Town Centre will be open to business throughout the works. The project is anticipated to be complete in time for the Christmas Lights Switch On- Saturday 25th November.

The Public Realm Strategy sets out a cohesive approach to the refurbishment and development of streets and public spaces within the town. It focuses on 12 projects across 10 ‘character’ areas of Congleton and outlines designs to deliver transformational change within the public realm.
The Vision is that:
Congleton should seek to re-establish itself as an attractive location to work and shop as it is to live, providing a desirable, inclusive, sustainable and distinct Town Centre.
The 12 projects are:
• Mountbatten Way
• Rood Hill
• Pedestrian Area – Bridge Street/Duke Street/Little Street
• Festival Square – High Street junction with Market Street
• Lawton Street
• Mill Street/Swan Bank
• Route the Park – Kinsey Street/Park Road
