Congleton Town Council are putting the finishing touches together for an action-packed Medieval Festival fun day as part of the town’s 750 charter year celebrations. The free event in Congleton Park is taking place on Saturday 13 August. Gates open at 11.30am, the fun starts at 12 noon and continues until 6pm.
The event is expected to attract thousands, free tickets are going fast and time is running out for residents to grab their tickets. If you wish to join in the medieval celebrations, tickets are available online via Eventbrite: www.eventbrite.co.uk or they can be collected from the Information Centre in the Town Hall. There are 5,000 tickets available in total.
Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Margaret Gartside said: “There will be an arena with a full programme of events which will be repeated. Performances include two dazzling jousting display by the Knights of Nottingham, falconry demos, fire dancing, axe throwing and Dreygo the smoke-breathing dragon. Festival goers can enjoy food and drink stalls, a craft tent, the chance to go on a dragon quest, medieval music by PIVA and much more! We hope as many local people as possible can join us to celebrate Congleton’s historic year.”
Cllr Gartside continues: “There’s so much going on, so make sure you pick up an event programme for just £1. Available on the day or due in the Information Centre w/c 8 August. Visitors purchasing a programme will be in with a chance of winning £100! All you need to do is match the number on your programme with the number drawn by the Knights of Nottingham at 4.30pm. It could be your lucky day!”
The town council are encouraging residents to walk to the park if they can as surrounding roads and car parks will be extremely busy. In addition to town centre car parks, free event parking is available on Siemens, Jackson Road and Beresford’s, off Willow Street (opp St Stephen’s Church. Blue badge parking on Hankinson’s field, off Park Road. Follow the big blue signs. Dogs are permitted on leads, but owners are advised to leave their four-legged friends at home as the park will be packed.
