Growing for Gold!

Children plant pots of gold for Congleton in Bloom

Green-fingered children and helpers from five local schools and a pre-school have been busy planting up flower tubs to help brighten up the town and help Congleton’s entry into the North West, Britain in Bloom and Community Pride Awards.

The tubs will turn into pots of gold, filled with begonias, petunias, diascia and heucheras. Gold was seen as appropriate as Congleton is a gold winning North West in Bloom and Britain in Bloom town and is working hard to retain this status for 2016

Mayor Cllr David Brown, who also chairs the In Bloom group said: “The children’s tubs are always much admired and on a busy Saturday I would like to say a huge thank you to the children and their helpers from Havannah, Buglawton, Marton, Saint Mary’s Catholic School, Woodcocks’ Well and St Mary’s pre-school who did such a terrific job on behalf of all the schools and youth groups.”

Patti Pinto, Cheshire’s Community Champion and member of Congleton in Bloom team added, “Working with these enthusiastic young children and their adult helpers on the school plant-up sessions is always a pleasure and the results of their work will help brighten the town for all.”

All the children will receive a certificate of thanks from the Town Council and In Bloom group.

The next community event is the Friends of Congleton Park ‘Volunteer Day’ on Sunday 22 May. Friends, and anyone else who can join them, will be carrying out an extra spruce up of the Park ready for the influx of visitors for summer season. The clean starts at 10.30am but people can join in when they can and for how long they are able to give – please let the Friends of Congleton Park secretary know if you are planning to help – then they can sort out a list of what’s achievable!
