Grand Lantern Parade

Grand Lantern Parade to light-up the Way to the Ice Rink

The much-loved Congleton Lantern Parade will take place on Friday 13 December to launch the opening of town’s ‘Ice Rink’. The Parade will leave the Community Garden in Lawton Street at 5.15pm and make its way along the High Street and through the pedestrian area arriving at the Skating Rink in the Bulls Head Car Park, Mill Street at 5.30pm.

The lantern parade has always been a key part of the Christmas Lights Switch on, but this year the organisers agreed to ‘save’ the parade for the Ice Rink opening. It is hoped that plenty of people will come out to see the parade and admire the lanterns – which includes a giant ice skating boot!

The parade will include children and their families who have made lanterns at workshops run by Congleton Community Projects, dancers from Louise Carter School of Dance, Congleton High School Samba Band, as well as Santa and his special guest Ruby Parr. People who have made lanterns in previous years are very welcome to bring their lanterns down to the Community Garden and join in the parade.

Those in the procession will get an opportunity to skate on the opening evening, while others are welcome to come down and soak up the atmosphere and join in the fun from 5.30 – 8pm.

The rink will be open daily from 10am – 8pm from Saturday 14 December – Sunday 22 December. Tickets are selling well and cost £5 for an adult, £3 for teens and £2 for children. Family tickets can be purchased for £12 (2+3 at the same session). There is also limited opportunity for private parties  – costing £100 for an hour. Tickets can be purchased at the Tourist Information Centre. For the latest information see the facebook page Congleton Community Ice Rink
