To help shoppers enjoy Congleton’s festive atmosphere and support local businesses, Congleton Town Council has stepped in to fund three free parking days on Saturday 7, 14, and 21 December. This initiative follows a change in previous arrangements, where Cheshire East Council, who operate and manage the car parks, had offered free parking days across towns but are unable to do so this year due to financial constraints.
Parking is free after 10am in the following car parks:
- Princess Street car park (Market)
- Back Park Street car park (behind Lawton Street)
- Fairground car park (please note: a 3-hour limit applies)
Additionally, Back Park Street car park remains free every day after 3pm, as part of Cheshire East Council’s usual parking policy.
David McGifford, Chief Officer at the Town Council said: “We know how important the festive period is for our residents, visitors, and local businesses. While Cheshire East Council’s financial pressures meant they couldn’t offer the free parking days this year, Congleton Town Council felt it was vital to step in and fund these ourselves. We’re proud to do this to encourage people to stay longer, shop locally, and enjoy all the Christmas spirit Congleton has to offer.”
The initiative aims to ease the burden on shoppers and encourage greater footfall to support Congleton’s shops, markets, and hospitality venues during the crucial Christmas period.
