Countdown to Christmas Switch-On

Congleton is set to light up the festive season on Friday 28 November, with an evening of music, entertainment, food, and family fun as the town celebrates its annual Christmas Lights Switch-On. The event kicks off at 4pm, with the big switch-on at 6pm, and Santa waving from The Space rooftop at 7pm.

The celebrations include:

  • Main Stage Performances: Rode Hall Silver Band, Shakermaker, Harry Jones, and street performers
  • Community Stage: Local schools and groups performing on Swan Bank
  • Lantern Parade: Meet at 5.15pm on Mill Street, parade sets off at 5.40pm leading Santa’s sleigh to the Christmas tree
  • Switch-on: The town lights up at 6pm
  • Santa’s Grotto & Children’s Zone: Free festive fun in the Town Hall
  • Stalls and shops: Over 40 food, craft, and community stalls, plus fairground rides

With festive window displays and over 100 Christmas trees and magical lights throughout the town centre every day from 3pm–11pm until the New Year, Congleton promises to be a winter wonderland for residents and visitors alike.

Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Brittain said: “Congleton’s Christmas celebrations are a testament to our town’s community spirit. From the Lantern Parade to Santa’s Grotto and all the lights in between, this event brings joy to everyone and showcases our fantastic local traders and performers. It’s the perfect way to kick off the festive season.”

The event is fully accessible, with quiet zones, accessible toilets, and a live-stream of the main stage available inside the Town Hall. Plus an inclusive area inside The Space.

Road closures on High Street, Mill Street, and Swan Bank will be in place from 12pm–10pm to ensure visitor safety.

This year’s event is made possible thanks to the generous support of our sponsors: Bloor Homes, Castle Green Homes, Congleton Market Quarter, Sibelco and Spurstow Capital. Their contributions help bring the festive magic to life in Congleton, from the sparkling lights and Santa’s Grotto, to the main stage entertainment and road closures.
