Congleton Churches

The Government has announced that people must not gather in churches because of the danger of spreading COVID-19 infection.

Congleton Methodist Churches (Rood Lane Methodist Church, 14 Derby Street, Trinity Methodist Church, Wagg Street, Tel: 01260 270899; Wellspring Methodist Church, 100 Canal Road, Tel: 01260 297298): Sunday worship and all upcoming events have been postponed until further notice. A short act of worship for personal use will be provided each week by the Methodist Church during the crisis period and on-line worship for local people will be available on the Dane and Trent Churches web site, see https://danetrentmethodist.org.uk/

Congleton Parish (St John the Evangelist Church, Old Buxton Road; St Stephen’s Church, Willow Street; St Peter’s Church, Chapel Street, Holy Trinity Church, Biddulph Road; Church Office, Tel: 01260 173212 9:30-12:30): Church services are suspended and the churches are not open for prayer. All other meetings have been postponed. But a video of an all-age Mothering Sunday service is available on the Congleton Parish Facebook page and the St Peter’s Church Congleton page has a recording made live from the church on Sunday morning. In addition the Church of England is providing liturgy and prayers for people to use at home: see https://www.churchofengland.org/more/media-centre/coronavirus-covid-19-liturgy-and-prayer-resources. Congleton Pentecostal Church (Cross Street, Tel: 01260 273635): All services and activities are cancelled until further notice, but members will be keeping in touch to support one another. There will be a weekly sermon on the church website: (www.crossstreetchurch.co.uk) and some action songs and Bible stories on will be posted the Cross Street Parent and Toddler Group Facebook page. Non personal prayer requests will be put on the Cross Street Church Facebook page.

Congleton United Reformed Church (Antrobus Street, Tel: 01260 273901): No upcoming events.

Hope Church (The Scout Hut, St Johns Road): All church activities have been suspended indefinitely, but the church is working on options to deliver services using online or conferencing technology and further details will be announced in due course. Keep up to date with the latest on the Hope Church Facebook page, and or email hello@hopechurchcongleton.com.

Latter Day Saints (LDS) Church (Newcastle Road, Tel: 01260 289755): No upcoming events.

New Life Church (Danesford Community Centre, West Road, Tel: 01260 297961): Worship services and all the other groups that normally meet at the church have been postponed for the duration of the emergency and the Words and Music cafe and bookshop will be closed until further notice. However the church is experimenting with an interactive on-line service on Sunday mornings, including a sermon broadcast live from the preacher’s home, and it is hoping to make a broadcast of this service available to the public on YouTube. Meanwhile the Storehouse food bank will be responding to requests for food parcels for those in desperate need. The church office will be manned Monday to Friday to receive enquiries or requests for help.

St James’ Church (Astbury St. Congleton, Tel: 01260 408203): The church is currently closed as per government guidelines. It will remain closed until further notice. Parishioners are keeping in touch by phone and online. 

St Mary‘s Catholic Chapel (30, West Road, Tel: 273314): The church is not holding services at the moment, but it has a list of volunteers who can provide some help to those in need.
