In light of yesterday’s (16th March) Government announcements, Congleton Town Hall is working with event organisers to cancel all events in the Town Hall until the 8th June. The on-going situation will be reviewed as a when necessary. The only exception to the public cancellations is the NHS Blood and Donor sessions which will continue for as long as the NHS is happy to use the building. Where possible events will be rescheduled. Congleton Town Council has suspended its cancellation policy so that any organisations affected will not have to find the hall hire costs.
Events affected include:
- Chubby Brown – due to be held on the 20th March. This has been reorganised for the 1st August. Tickets are through the agent.
- Congleton Youth Orchestra 28th March
- Congleton Mayor’s Ball – 4th April new date to be confirmed
- Choral Society – 18th April
- Northern Soul Night 25th April
- Congleton Annual Town Meeting – 30th April. New date to be confirmed
- Congleton Mayor Making -14th May – new date to be confirmed
- Congleton 2nd Green Fayre 30th May
- Plus other private and commercial events.
Some Town Council staff will continue to work from the Town Hall, although where possible staff will work from home. Town Hall phones and computers have been adapted to make this possible. The normal phone line (01260 270350) and emails (info@congleton-tc.gov.uk will be answered.
Outdoor events will also be affected. The Easter Treats day will not take place on the 7th April although the hop around the shops find the bunny in the window will still be set up. The launch of the Five Town Partnership walk will not take place on the 9th April, and the planned Mayor’s local peaks challenge will also be suspended. Preparations for the opening of the Paddling Pool will be delayed and advice taken as the season progresses. The Tidy Town litter picks will also be cancelled for at least the next couple of months.
The under 18s club night due to take place at Bamboogy on the 9th April and organised with the Bamboogy staff in conjunction with the Councillor Rob Moreton has also been cancelled and will be rearranged for later in the year.
The Town’s Mayor, Cllr Sally Ann Holland will not be attending any social engagements for the next 12 weeks and is busy letting the community groups know, many of which were already in the process of postponing or cancelling their visits.
The Mayor said: “We really have never know anything like this. This is going to be an extremely tough time for everyone. With Government advice that people should avoid contact with others to curb the corona virus there really is no choice but to take these drastic actions on cancelling and rescheduling events and activities. The Town Council will remain contactable by phone and emails and will continue to help the community as much as we can to get through this difficult time.”
