Mayor’s Cadet

Congleton Town Mayor may nominate an outstanding Cadet to become his/her Cadet for his/her term of Office. The cadet’s formal duties will be to attend the Mayor as and when appropriate in the course of his/her official duties.

Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor

The Town Mayor and Deputy Town Mayor will be Disclosure and Barring Service checked.

Recommendation

The recommendation, using the nomination form, will be requested annually by the Reserve Forces and Cadets Associations on a rotational basis through the respective Services.

Selection Process

The Town Council will form a panel to consider applications for the position of Town Mayor’s Cadet. The Committee will consist of The Town Mayor, The Deputy Town Mayor, Chairman of Community and Environment Committee, Civic Administration Officer and two members of the Youth Committee.

The Committee may wish to interview the candidates. Following the selection process the Deputy Town Mayor will make the final decision and the Cadet will begin their term on the date of the Mayor Making Ceremony when the Deputy Town Mayor takes office as Town Mayor.

Requirements for the Award

The Town Mayor’s Cadet is a high profile appointment and as such it is expected that the candidate should be of the highest standard with good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a wide range of people. Nominations should normally be a Senior Cadet who is under the age of 18 on 1st May of the year in which they take up the appointment. They would normally be expected to continue their Cadet service for at least 12 months following their appointment as the Town Mayor’s Cadet.

Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the “Parent” Cadet Force to liaise with the Town Mayor’s Office to determine the duties for which the cadet will be required. The guidance notes for the Town Mayor’s Cadet give some examples of typical duties. This is not exhaustive and will be adjusted as required by the Town Mayor.

The outgoing cadet should, where possible, brief the incoming cadet on his/her expected duties. It is the responsibility of the Headquarters of the incoming cadet to arrange this process through the Headquarters of the outgoing cadet.

Term of Office

The Town Mayor’s Cadet will hold their appointment from the date of the Annual Council Meeting until the Annual Council Meeting of the following year.

Badge

The Town Mayor’s Cadet will be presented with a special Badge at the Annual Council meeting and will be expected to wear the Badge on official duties during his/her term of office.

Presentation of Town Mayor’s Cadet Certificate

At the end of the Cadets term of office the Cadet will be presented with a Certificate at the Annual Council Meeting.
