Pedestrian Area Congleton has over 160 retail premises and 32 places to eat or drink! The town centre boasts many well known retailers as well as many independent shops, catering for all needs. For more details about traders click here. To submit an application to join the directory click here.

The main shopping area is in High Street, Capitol Walk, Bridge Street, Duke Street, Swan Bank, Little Street, West Street and Mill Street. There are also retail units on Barn Road (by Tesco) at the West Heath Shopping Centre and along Foundry Bank (Victoria Mill).

A covered market, just off the pedestrian area, is held twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Tuesday market is joined by a Farmers Market, offering local produce, once a month. There is also a car boot sale on Sundays. There is a good chance that the area currently housing the market will be developed over the next 3-5 years, and so an independent Market Study has been commissioned to ascertain the future options for maintaining a prosperous and sustainable market.

In 2007 the Town was recognised as a Fairtrade Town and there is a growing number of cafes and retailers in Congleton stocking fair-trade products.

The Town is not content to stand still. A Town Plan, which shows the vision and way forward for Congleton over the next 10 -20 years was published in March 2008. Over the next few months further options will be consulted on as the Town Plan is developed for Area Action Status.
