The Council has 20 Councillors serving six wards. Councillors are not paid and are elected every four years to serve the people living and working in their areas. The last elections were held in May 2007. The next will be May 2011. All Councillors serve on Council, Planning and Strategy Working Groups. The Town Mayor of Congleton is elected annually by a vote of the Council. The Mayor chooses a charity for their year in office and raises money.
