Congleton Town Council was created in 1980 to represent the people of Congleton town. 20 Councillors, representing six wards, are elected every four years (next election May 2011) to serve on the Council. The Town Council is consulted on planning applications for the town and makes representations to Cheshire East Borough Council if it concerns waste or rights of way.
On the 2 June 2008 the Town Council took over the freehold and management of Congleton Town Hall from the Borough Council.
The Town Council is responsible for managing Congleton' Paddling Pool, in Park Road, Congleton.
The Town Council is the accountable body for Congleton' Market Town Initiative, which includes the Town Plan.
