Christmas Makers Market

The Christmas Makers Market will bring together the finest and often award-winning food, drink, art & craft producers in the area. The High Street and Pedestrian Area will be filled with specially selected stall holders who source, grow, rear, bake, make and create the products they sell, which ensures their goods are unique and designed to inspire. The food aspect of the market uses the very best of seasonal local farm produce, artisan breads, delicatessen and hand crafted cheeses, produced and sourced by people who are passionate about what they do. For more information about the Makers Market, click here.

Charity Stalls

Christmas is a time for giving! Local charities and organisations will be setting up their stalls in the Bridestones Centre (near Argos) to raise funds for their group or organisation between 11.00am – 3.00pm. In the past many groups have really entered into the Christmas spirit wearing Santa hats and putting on some fun, fundraising activities. There are still a few charity stalls left for the event, if you would like a stall, please email the Christmas Team.

Cheshire Reindeer

Reindeer from the Cheshire Reindeer Lodge will be in the Town Centre on Saturday 25th November between 1.00pm – 5.00pm at the top end of the pedestrian area (Peacocks end). When out and about, the Cheshire Reindeer love to make lots of new friends, be stroked and hand fed their treats and of course have their photo taken in their festive head collars and harnesses. For more information about the Reindeer, click here.

Stage Entertainment

The Christmas Crackers team is currently organising a full day programme of entertainment for the stage- the stage will be located at the top of Market Street (in the road between B&M Bargains & Barclays Bank). The programme will start at 11.00am and is so far made up of brass bands, choirs, school choirs, dance troupes, local magician Nick Barnes and much more! If you think you have an act that would suit the Christmas Festival, whether it be singing, dancing, acting or joke telling, contact the Entertainments Team.

Lantern Procession & Workshops

The Grand Lantern Procession will leave Back Park Street car park (at the back of Carter House) at 5.00pm and make its way to the top of Lawton Street to start the parade at 5.05pm. Picking up Santa in his Sleigh on the way, a crowd of lit lanterns, led by Samba band “Sambamba” will make its way down Lawton Street and onto the High Street, stopping at Moody Street, in time for the Christmas songs and countdown for the Big Switch-On and Fireworks Display.

Workshops will take place at the Electric Picture House, Cross Street throughout November, these are free workshops, open to children of all ages. The Lantern Making Workshops will be on Saturdays 4th, 11th & 18th November between 10.30am – 3.30pm. New for 2017, why not try your hand at Samba Workshops, these will also be at the Electric Picture House on Mondays 6th & 13th November from 6.00pm – 8.00pm.

Big Switch-On & Firework Display

Congleton’s Christmas Lights will be switched on at 5.30pm this year, followed by a Finale Firework Display- sponsored by Congleton Rotary Club. After another set from Sambamba on the stage, it will soon be time for Santa to leave for Lapland at 6.00pm, closing the event for the day.

Road Closures

In order to protect the public at this great Community Event we have applied for Road Closures. These will come into force at 7.00am and will close off the High Street from the top of Market Street – to the Town Hall. Vehicles will not be able to access the High Street from Market Street, Moody Street or Canal Street. There will be normal access to Morrison’s Car Park and Bus Station. The roads will be back open by 8.00pm at the latest.

Car Parking

For the Christmas Festival Event, the car parking charges will be lifted for one day only on the following car parks from 10.00am: Back Park Street, Fairground and Princess Street car parks.

Volunteering

If you would like to be part of the Christmas Crackers Team that delivers this fantastic event, the team are looking for more people to volunteer at this year’s event- as the event has grown bigger, so has the demand for volunteers to help make the switch on what it is! Volunteering at the Christmas Event can range from helping set-up and clear away, litter picking, helping to marshal the parade and many other jobs throughout the day- any support you can give would be much appreciated!

If you would like to volunteer at the Switch-On on Saturday 25th November, please email the Christmas Group.
