Congleton’s Annual Town Meeting

Public realm improvements to Congleton Town Centre, an update on Congleton’s Neighbourhood Plan and the Town Council’s Annual Report will top the agenda for this year’s Annual Town Meeting, to be held on Thursday 28th April in Congleton Town Hall.

The meeting will start at 7.00pm and finish by 8.30pm. It will be chaired by the Town Mayor, Cllr Elizabeth Wardlaw. The agenda has been kept short to allow more time for public questions and open debate, which is an important part of the Annual Town Meeting.

By law, the Town Council must organise and host an Annual Town Meeting before the end of May each year. Everyone who has a right to vote in Congleton has a right to attend, speak and ask questions at the annual meeting. Any Councillors attending the meeting do so as a member of the public.

Congleton Town Council Chief Officer, David McGifford said: “I hope many local residents and representatives will attend this important meeting for the town. It’s an exciting time for the town with many plans finally coming to fruition. There will be a chance to see and comment on the plans for the improved Public Realm and hear the latest on the Neighbourhood Plan. The national agenda is about local communities having a bigger say in the future of their towns and the annual town meeting is an ideal time to share ideas on the future of our town.”
