A Celebration Song For Congleton

Thirteen young people from Eaton Bank school spent all day with talented and enthusiastic Musical and Artistic Director of Theatre in the Quarter, Matt Baker, at a musical composition workshop held in St Peter’s Parish Room. They created the lyrics working round traditional Olympic themes and then related them to Congleton with the aim of creating a celebration song to use for events in Congleton in 2012 and beyond. This celebration song has all the makings of an anthem with a catchy and rousing chorus that they hope every Congletonian will get to know. The song is in the process of being recorded and will be available on the Team Congleton section of www.congleton-tc.gov.uk The workshop was organised by Congleton Community Projects as part of Team Congleton.

A Celebration Song for Congleton

Verse 1

Romans charged across the plains
Boatmen sailed along the Dane.
Fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers,
Sporting blood runs through our veins.

Chorus

Shout it out loud
From the top of The Cloud.
Shout it out loud
Because we feel so proud
We’re alive! We’re alive! We’re alive! Yes so alive!
We’re alive in our town with the massive heart
And everyone plays their part.

Verse 2

Toddlers paddle in the pool,
Children cycle home from school
Rugby, Football, Swimming, Dance,
Everybody has the chance.

Chorus

Verse 3

Have the heart to succeed,
But with grace, love and care,
With the courage of the lion
And the strength of the bear.
THE STRENGTH OF THE BEAR!

 Chorus
