Town Mayor

Every year, in May, the Town Councillors elect one of the Councillors to become Town Mayor for the year. The Town Mayor is usually Deputy Town Mayor in the previous year.

At Congleton Town Council Meeting on Thursday 12th January the Councillors elected Cllr Douglas Parker to serve as Town Mayor for the remainder of the Civic Year, following the death of the Town Mayor, Cllr David Martin in December. Cllr Parker is a very experienced  Mayor and Councillor having served on the former Congleton Borough Council for seven years and Congleton Town Council for 20 years. He was a Congleton Borough Mayor in 2003/4 and has been Congleton Town Mayor three times (1993/4,1999/2000 and 2007/2008). He is best known for his tireless work to raise funds for Congleton House in Romania, a charity Cllr Parker set up in 2004.

The Town Mayor raises funds for a local charity or charities of their choice. Cllr Parker will continue to support David Martin's chosen charities. The Mayor also Chairs the Council meeting, host a Civic Parade in June and a Mayor' ball in March. The Mayor attends many functions on behalf of the people of Congleton. These range from opening garden parties, to school visits, attending functions in neighbouring towns to helping switch on the Christmas Lights.
